The Etrich Taube was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by the Austrian designer Igo Etrich and is considered one of the first successful monoplane aircraft.
Thanks to its pigeon-shaped wings, it had remarkable flight stability for the time, making it a popular training and demonstration aircraft.
Its design was built under license by various manufacturers and was used briefly as a reconnaissance aircraft during the First World War.
However, due to its lightweight construction and lack of armament, it was soon inferior to faster and better armed opponents.
Some restored examples can now be seen in museums and are a reminder of the pioneering era of aviation.
